Context

The 2023 Lahaina fire and subsequent storms damaged historic sites central to the town's identity and memory. The fire damaged or destroyed more than 2,200 structures and caused an estimated $5.5 billion in damage. The Lahaina Restoration Foundation (LRF) stewards these places and their histories.

Impact

•Vetting of firm qualifications and proposals, and serving as architectural liaison for the selection of the master-planning firm, AECOM.
•Analysis, management, and structural repairs of the Pioneer Mill Smokestack, a symbol of Lahaina.
•Research alternative fundraising strategies, bridge funding opportunities, and associated timelines.
•Assist in the development of a public relations strategy and management of information releases pertaining to site development.
•Support the restoration of 12 historically significant infrastructure projects.
•Revamp the internal accounting system to efficiently track fundraising campaigns, grants, bridge funding, and reconstruction expenses.
